The hardware log fills up saying the battery is good, and the battery has failed. My question is about changing the battery. Is the battery holding the raid config? This server is in production and I can turn it off, but I do not want to loose the raid config. I have the p/n as NU209, and was wondering if it is a simple as turning off the server, and plugging in the new batter?
Hello Experts, We have a Dell R720 Server with 4 HDD configured in RAID 5. We encountered a disk failure in the slot-0 state as Failed and for some reason the state of slot-3 HDD became Foreign. The other two slot-1 & slot-2 HDD are showing Online. The controller is PERC H710 Mini. Now the issue is I can not start the Rebuild process, only option I get is the Global HS mode. Windows is not booting, all I can get is the Controller BIOS Configuration Utility.
I have the same spec spare Hard Drive with just the chasis size 2.5" instead of 3.5", and it pops up in the BIOS as Foreign drive.
Please advise what should be the proper steps to follow from here on !
Hi,
we have a RAID 5 with 4 disks. We found one of them have the predictive failure light blinking (amber and green) and another one failed (not flashing amber led).
The Server didn't work.
I removed the failed disk and I substituted it with a new one.
But now when I try to boot the Server doesn't work yet.
I can see in the SCSI Raid utility the new disk as foreign, and the "blinking" disk as failed.
I can't start rebuilding.
Help me to make one last attempt !!! Please
Thank you
Hi Guys,
A client bought a New Poweredge T130 with two 1TB drives inside + a PERC H330 RAID Controller.
He got the Windows server 2012 R2 foundation preinstalled by Dell but seems he did not instruct them to setup RAID 1 - I can see the two drives in Windows Explorer
SO - with the Dell Lifecycle Controller utility it seems I can add RAID 1 to mirror the main drive. Here are the Qs:
1. If I go ahead with this will the previous intsall of Server 2012 be removed? Will I have to reinstall Server 2012 Foundation?
2. Any way to do this and leave the factory Server install?
3. Is it actually worth going to trouble of leaving the factory install, just deploy again via LifeCycle controller?
Their is NO DATA or software except for vanilla windows server 2012 installed on the system
On boot up into Server 2012 foundation it asked me to partition the OS drive - I gave it 120GB
BTW - will RAID 1 Mirror the whole OS Drive, 2 partitions ( C, D ) to the empty 2nd iTB Drive already in there?
This is a simple setup - only 5 workstations off this unit. No real security required. Only reason for server is it is needed to run certain practice management software. The client asked me to do Mirror ..
Hello,
Our configuration:
R730xd with Perc H730P (2GB)
2 SAS Drive 15K 300GB as Raid 1 (Host OS RHEL 7)
20 SAS Drives 15K 600GB as Raid 10 (VMs Microsoft W2K8R2 W2012R2 - NO database servers - Exchange is hosted on a different server)
As a research facility we have a broad spectrum of files and file sizes that are generated.
File sizes generated vary between office files (e.g. small Word files, large PowerPoint files), large research files (bigger than 1MB in size) and lot of small research files (smaller than 50KB).
The "Stripe (Element) Size" I did choose for the initial RAID10-Virtual Disk setup was 128K (a mistake?).
As I would like to check/compare the write/read performance with a different "Strip Element Size"/Stripe Size (e.g. 64K, 32K), I would like to ask the following question:
- according to user "pcmeiners" in a posting (from 2005) (en.community.dell.com/.../17394995) he is describing a step by step instruction to change the "Strip Element Size"/Stripe Size without destroying the data on the VD.
- in another posting from "pcmeiners" (en.community.dell.com/.../19509110) he was writing, that he was able to manage/change the Stripe Element Size "...on raid 1 and raid 10 for tweaking the stripe size for databases many times in the past, without destroying data, with no issues...".
Question:
Is this manual/workaround still valid/working for the current Dell server models (R730xd with Perc h730p which is based on the LSI3108)?
It would be very helpful changing the "Strip Element Size" without setting up everything again (would be very! time consuming).
Thanks for your help

Hi All
I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
I have a Dell R310 ( Same issue on a R320 ) with a PERC H700 Controller that has 4x Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD's attached to it, these were initially configured in a raid 10 array and then Ubuntu installed to which I was getting great read and write speeds for the first few days, there after the r/rw is down to 25Mb/s
I then scrapped that idea and set up the 4 disks each in their own RAID 0 ( no read ahead, with write through and size = 128k ) and tried to use mdadm raid 10 through ubuntu. Same results. Incredible speeds for the first few days and now its back down to 25Mb/s
Any suggestions on what I can do to get better speeds? Is there some part of the recipe I am missing
PERC Versions
Package:12.10.7-0001
FW Version:2.100.03-4651
BIOS Version 3.18.00
Any help is appreciated, thank you!
Hi,
we installed a PowerVault MD1200 (PERC H800) in PowerEdge R530. The controller is normally found but the error bellow is showed on startup. Is that any problem? How could we solve this problem?
------------------------------------------
LSI EFI SAS Driver:
Unhealthy status reported by this UEFI driver without specific error message(s).
UEFI0116: One or more boot drivers have reported issue(s).
Check the Driver Health Menu in boot manager for details.
Has anyone been able to get the VRTX shared Storage to perform?
I have seen multiple old threads here from 2014-15 talking about removing the redundant PERC to be able to use write-back caching, but I have the current firmware installed and with it write-back and "forced write-back" are available options with the redundant controllers installed (and not disabled), but the performance of the virtual disks (For lack of a better term.) ***! I got better performance from a remote iSCSI array than local storage in the VRTX chassis is providing which is ridiculous!
Below is how the VD's are configured (either write-back or forced write-back, but neither provide acceptable performance.
Anyone that can provide some advice as to how to get this chassis and its integrated functionality to actually to be usable would be greatly appreciated!
Presently there are 2 nodes used for a VMware 6.5 LAB and the 3rd node is being used for testing out Azure Stack TP3 all of which due to the performance of the chassis is delaying our ability to proceed forward with validating the platforms.
HI
I had a few days workings on this and can´t figure out what is going on on this old PE2950 with perc 5-i.
One day the disk on bay 01/01 dies I replaced with another one that was new and the array still showing the disk missing, I test the same disk *new in the md3000 to see what happens and it works perfect even I initialize it in the md3000. I had other 2950 with same configuration and also switch backplanes thinking is was something on hardware but my surprise not still same showing missing disk
Any idea what to do, the perc has the latest FW available in dell *looked by ST. and the disk I updated the fw in the MD3000 also.
Best Regards.
Hi all,
My Poweredge 2950 has 2 disks in raid 1. It show "Available raid disk space = 139.75GB". Initially it had 2 disks with 450gb each. 1 had problem and was replaced by another one of 600gb. Now the other of 450gb spoiled and was replaced by another of 600gb. How could I take advantage of these 139.75GB available without having to format the server?
Thanks,
Marco
I'm getting a Degraded and Failed status for the PERC S110 Controller in Openmanage.
The Degraded status is for a RAID 1. The Failed status is for Non-RAID.
There are 2 physical 500 GB disks. I have updated all firmware using Lifecycle Controller. It's running the latest driver for the PERC S110. I've already powered off, unplugged both drives, booted up. Powered down, plugged both drives up and powered up, but still shows Degraded and Failed on the S110.
I have 2 partitions.
Drive C- OS - Backup working
Drive D - Data - Backup failing with an IO Error using Storagecraft.
Anyone have some ideas what is going on. Goal is to get Drive D functional so the backups work and to clear the Degraded and Failed status.
Thanks,
I have a dell PE T320 server RAID5 with perc 710 Controller, one of the hard drive was in foreign state, we ordered replacement hard drive from dell. replaced the drive and rebuilding operation started. upon viewing the open mange there was a message on virtual disk that the "virtual disk has bad blocks" rebuilding is currently at 1%. I updated the controller firmware and driver prior to replacing the drive
Thank you in advance for your help
I have PE 320 with perc h710 adapter. we replaced one drive that state showed foreign. the new drive was ordered from dell, the firmware and driver for the adapter were updated to the latest version. we replaced the drive and rebuild operation started. now the vd displays Virtual Disk has bad blocks. do i need to wait until completing rebuild? also the rebuild progress in no longer displayed.
Thank you
What is the largest supported hard drive for a R900? this office has a 3 drive raid 5 with 2T drives for a 4T capacity and are out of space. can i put 6T's and upgrade the Raid 5 to 12T useable? is there a bios update that will permit even larger drives?
Hello,
We have a Dell Poweredge R620 that started blue screening recently. When the server blue screens, one of the hard drives blinks amber until the server is rebooted, then it comes right back online without issues. We performed the standard troubleshooting steps, updated drivers, performed sfc /scannow, chkdsk /r, memory diagnostics. None of which resolved the problem.
Today, we ran the diagnostics utility from the boot menu and received the following error code and validation. The only component that that failed the diagnostics was the system management. The hard drives, raid controller, memory, processors..etc, all passed.
Error Code: 2000-0251
Validation: 80588
The operating system is Windows Server 2008 R2, it is running BIOS version 2.5.4 which is the most recent available from Dell, the controller is a PERC H710 Mini and it's embedded, the hard drives are Dell 146GB, 15k, 6 Gbps, RAID 0.
If anyone knows what this means and how to fix it, please let me know.
Thanks
I am stumped!
From the VRTX Switch I can ping all of the interfaces established.
From the external interface gi0/8 (L3/Routed) I cannot ping past the gateway for any of my networks.
I have interfaces setup for the following networks:
console#show ip interface
IP Address I/F I/F Status Type Directed Precedence Status
admin/oper Broadcast
------------------- ---------- ------------- ----------- ---------- ---------- -----------
0.0.0.0/32 gi0/7 UP/DOWN DHCP disable No Not received
10.10.10.250/24 vlan 1010 UP/UP Static disable No Valid
192.168.1.250/24 gi0/8 UP/UP Static disable No Valid
192.168.10.240/24 oob UP/UP Static disable No Valid
Established routes:
console#show ip route
Maximum Parallel Paths: 1 (1 after reset)
IP Forwarding: enabled
Codes: > - best, C - connected, S - static
S 0.0.0.0/0 [1/1] via 192.168.1.1, 00:29:14, gi0/8
C 10.10.10.0/24 is directly connected, vlan 1010
C 192.168.1.0/24 is directly connected, gi0/8
C 192.168.10.0/24 is directly connected, oob
From the console all networks are reachable even the public internet, but when I try to ping into this switch I can only get to the established interfaces and nothing beyond?
I have on the FIOS router configured a static routes as listed below:
Routing Table | ||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Name | Destination | Gateway | Netmask | Metric | Status | Action |
Network (Home/Office) | 10.10.10.0 | 192.168.1.250 | 255.255.255.0 | 1 | Applied | |
Network (Home/Office) | 192.168.10.0 | 192.168.1.250 | 255.255.255.0 | 1 | Applied |
What am I doing incorrectly?
What am I missing?
I know I can work around this by putting a routerOS, but I am not looking to work around this. I should be able to get this to work without putting another device in the middle!
Thanks!
Bill
Hi
We have a H700 controller running on an R710 with 8x dell certified 600gb 10k drives. They are configured in RAID 10.
Our backup software, Acronis, was reporting "failed to read block ........"
We ran dell diagnostics and on the disc check it said drive 1 had a bad block. We replaced drive 1 and re ran the tests and all clear.
Acronis however reports exactly the same issue when backing up even after the replacement drive. Has anyone had this issue?
Note we haven't run the extended dell diag tests due to the down time.
Hi there,
I have recently bought a used T410 which has 6 hot-swap caddies, part number OX968D. I have bought some 3.5" drives separately, but have no screws. I have tried some screws, but they do not fit flush, so I can't insert the caddy into the hot-swap enclosure. Does anyone know the correct screws to use please?
Hello,
I inherited an R720 with Server 2008 64 bit. Due to a pending ERP upgrade, I need to upgrade the O/S to 2008 R2. When I tried that it said that I need to upgrade the PERC H710 driver first. I don't know which driver it's looking for. I downloaded one from Dell and when I ran it, it said that it's the wrong driver for the O/S. Am I in a Catch-22 here? Any help would be appreciated.
