Hi guys, we are planning to add IBM ds3512 with Dell R710 which is having a two port 6gb /E Perc card. Windows 2008 r2 is the operating system installed on server, I have configured storage which shows wwpn number of the card and assign the Lun to the server using wwpn of SAS card. But some how the disk management in server 2008 do not show any other drive other than default disk. Rescan also do not add that assigned disk to the server. The storage and the server is connected with SAS cables having one side and 8470 server side and 8088 storage side.  While Led on card are green. Why operating system

Do not show assigned drive? Regards

Multiple disk failures - VD offline

We had multiple simultaneous disk failures. I don't think all of these disks are failed, I think there is some bug in PERC 6 firmware or HDD firmare that I would like to know, because I've lost the whole RAID volume

Here you can find the whole log starting form a SAS_DISCOVERY event.

http://pastebin.com/KwAFw0wz

If this is a known bug, I would like to know the exact version where it is fixed, as I have other servers with PERC 6i (different firmware version) and same HDD but with different firmware to check.

I think this is a CRITICAL bug/issue. Is almost impossible that 4 drives fails in a couple of minute/hours with no apparent reasons. SMART doesn't report any issue.

Power Edge R510 - searching compatible W347K hard disk

Hi,

We have a Dell Power Edge R510 with Perc H700 controller.

Two virtual disk (RAID-1) has been configured using W347K hard disks (hot swap SAS 6Gbps, 600GB, 15K rpm f/w ES64) .

We have two of this disks (one for each virtual disk) that are now in failed state;  we had also few years ago the same problem on another disk.

Please could you give us information about compatible hard disk for this server configuration ?

Many Thanks

Paolo

Replacing H310 with a new H810

Hello,

I'm trying to upgrade our T320 H310 PERC to match all our other hardware which are running H810s.

Can I do this live; shut down the server, replace the PERC and boot back up with no changes to the raid data?

PE2900 RAID 1 DEGRADED, NEED HELP REBUILDING PHYSICAL DRIVE SHOWS FOREIGN

My Server is a Dell PowerEdge 2900 with Raid 1, using 2 - 1tb HDD's.

I had an issue with the server and needed to clean install windows. I needed to be able to work on some files while reinstalling and didn't have a drive large enough to back up. Due to time constraints I couldn't wait until I get a large enough drive, So instead I removed one HDD while the system was down and restarted the server. The BIOS complained about a foriegn configuration and made me enter PERC 5/i (CTRL+R) setup, I cleared the foriegn config and restarted. Everything booted up fine. I reinstalled windows, Got a backup of my data, and cleaned with DISKPART the second HDD using a different computer.
Now I want to reinsert the second HDD and rebuild the array. When I go in to Open Manage it shows my virtual disk as degraded and When I go to show the Physical Disks it shows me Physical Disk 0:0:0 as Foriegn and Physical Disk 0:0:1 as Online.
Disk 0:0:0 is the drive I want to add to array.
How can I add it without the risk of losing my data on Physical Disk 0:0:1?

Can anyone please assist me?

Thank You!

Raid array lost

Rebooted Poweredge 2850 and when it came back up three of the dives on channel 1 of the PERC 4e/Di are off line.  They were configured RAID 5.  It seems odd that all three drives would fail at one time.  I have tried upgrading the firmware of the controller with no luck.  I get:   HA-0 "PERC 4c/Di", Memory Daseaddr=0xf80f0008 IRQ=0x7 ERROR: No image found for adapter PERC 4e/Di.

Any help?

Re-create a virtual disk (RAID 1) from two existing disks

Following several power outages, my Dell PowerEdge T110 server ii unbootable. The virtual disk (Raid1) is gone but the two physical disks are still visible and a Ready status.

Is it possible to create a virtual disk Raid1 from two existing disk that was compose original virtual disk without losing data?

If this is not possible, is there a way to recover data (image) and re-create a new virtual disk?

I Hope that somebody can help me.

My understanding was that the replacement drive should have come up as ready.... not sure where to go.

Dell PowerEdge Raid 5 HDD 1 failure

$

I had a dell poweredge server running at client site having Raid 5 with 4 disks. Yesterday all of a sudden the system stop responding and there was error HDD 1 failure (showing orange light). Someone at client site (without consulting technical team) took out HDD 1 and swapped it with HDD 0 just to check if the slot stopped working. That guy had no idea of how raid works and he being a desktop troubleshooter considered it to be like normal disks swapped and turned on the server. It then showed HDD 0 failure message and according to him he was satisfied that slot was working :(

Sending the server to local vendors they found HDD 3 also missing in raid. But later they managed to get it back into raid but now they say the partition of one of the disk got corrupted as someone must have tried swapping it with HDD 0 with HDD 1.

I am in real bad condition right now. I want to know if in such case is there any way to recover client's data? Problem is this server was recently setup and the daily backup routine was having some issue which was suppose to be fixed and all of a sudden things happened :(

Getting (5) different SAS Errors for over a year. Finally noticed after a RAID 1 drive died and the replacement drive will not go ready. Is it my controller??

Just noticed the Windows logs for my PERC 6/iR have been reporting these errors nearly every day for a year, is my controller bad?  If so that's highly unfortunate as it's integrated.

1.)   Unexpected sense. SCSI sense data: Sense key:  3 Sense code: 11 Sense qualifier:  1:  Physical Disk 0:0:0 Controller 0, Connector 0

2.)   SAS port report: SAS wide port 0 lost link on PHY 0.:  Controller 0 (SAS 6/iR Integrated)

Hi all,

I am using R350 server. As data increase rapidly and my server storage is almost full. Therefore, I am planning to buy more HDD. Unfortunately, 6Gb/s SAS HDD is end of line.

So,

1. Can i mix 6Gb/s and 12Gb/s SAS HDD in my R350 server?

2. If it is possible to do so, do i need to anything to rebuild my RAID?

For your information, I am using RAID-5. My RAID Controller is H730

Please help. Thank you.

SED storage - PowerEdge T430 problems

Morning people, I 'm having a problem trying to setup / encrypt the Dell self encrypting disk (SED) in our T430 server. I've setup key management in the PERC. I'm just not able to invoke encryption no matter what options I try. I've even put a second SED in another slot giving me two SED drives and tried creating a RAID1 - still unable to set encryption. I've spoken to our local Dell support for help and looked at very short (and as it turns out not very helpful) document on SED encryption.

I'm running a PowerEdge T430 with a PERC H730

H730P with more than 8 drives

We have a range of R730xd servers with 2 x H730P RAID controllers, each with 8 x 6gbps SSDs attached. The servers are sold as "12+12" drive servers, and the chassis has bays for 4 more drives per controller.

When I read the H730P spec, I see it is described as an 8-port controller, which triggers some questions.

1) Are all 12 drive bays in each 'section' usable? I'd assume so since the server is sold as "12+12".

2) Are all 12 bays per controller handled by the H730P, or are 4 of them attached to ports on the motherboard? If so, which of them, and are they feature limited (caching, RAID support, performance, ...)?

Best regards,
Brian

Poweredge T410 - Both Discs Predicted Failure

Hello,

I have a Poweredge T410 with 2 cabled internal discs in RAID 1 configuration.

In OpenManage, the discs are coming up as failure predicted and I have subsequently ordered new

discs.

What is the best course of action for replacing the discs ? Can I hot swap one, let it rebuild and then hot swap the other, whilst the Server is powered up or will I need to down the Server first.

My only concern with downing the Server is whether it will come back on..

I would appreciate advice from anyone who has done this.

Thanks,

Simon

Adding new drives to H710 RAID 10 array

We have a PowerEdge R420 running OMSA 7.3.0.1 with a PERC H710 Mini controller.

Currently there are six physical drives in the server divided into one RAID 1 array and one RAID 10 array. We wish to expand the RAID 10 array with two more physical drives of the same capacity as the existing ones. I have found this article (https://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/118749-expanding-a-raid-array-with-a-perc-h710-adapter) and it looks simple enough but I would just like to know if anyone can advise of any pitfalls or problems they may have come across while doing this.

Thanks in advance.

Upgrade T110 II Hard Drive space

Hello,

I have a T110 II with 2x500GB in RAID 1 (S100), so 1TB in total,  and I'm running out of disk space. I'm perfectly happy with the machine performance but I would need 4TB, in RAID 0 (mirroring). The machine is running Windows SBS essentials 2011.

I'm a bit reluctant to buy a new server and throw away an old one just because of disk space.

Any suggestions regarding RAID controller, hard drives and upgrade procedure?

Thanks.

T310 SAS Drives

I have a Poweredge T310 and want to wipe the SAS Drives with Blancco. It does not detect the drives even in RAID 0 I think it's because it has an outdated RAID S300 Controller. I don't want to replace the card if I can help it. Is there anyone who knows how to force it to recognise the drives, otherwise I will have to resort to shredding them

PowerEdge T300 raid support

Hello, I recently purchased a PowerEdge T300 from ebay which I was hoping to use as a NAS box, it came with a raid card pre installed, a Dell™ Serial-Attached SCSI 6/iR card , however I am having some issues setting it up.

I understand that I need to press CTRL+R at startup to access the window where I can configure the 4 HHDs that I have connected but I am never asked to press CTRL+R I have tried to continually press it through the boot process but nothing happens and the computer attempts to boot into the OS as usual.

I have also checked in the BIOS and cannot see anything related to RAID.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Tank you.

One of drives comes as failed

Have old(er) and perfectly functional R410.  Was upgrading drives and replaced 2 Samsung Enterprise SSDs with 4 Intel SSDs.  All was good until I decided to test RAID and pulled one drive (UNIT 1) from the server.  Again, all was well and I plugged the drive back in.  Server cam back with Drive 1 failure in RAID and started rebuild.

Rebuild is completed, but the system still states Drive 1 as failed.  I have H700 on this unit and it reports drive as online and functioning.

Any input?

Non Critical Warning

Hi All,

I had a foreign config on one of the disks in a dell power edge server.

I cleared the foreign config and got the raid rebuilt.

Ever since then the both disks are reporting that they are non- critical.

There are also the following errors in the open manage event logs.

Disk found is not supplied by an authorized hardware provider: Physical Disk 0:1:1 Controller 0, Connector 0
Disk found is not supplied by an authorized hardware provider: Physical Disk 0:1:0 Controller 0, Connector 0

Controller event log: PD 01(e0x20/s1) is not a certified drive: Controller 0 (PERC H310 Mini)
Controller event log: PD 00(e0x20/s0) is not a certified drive: Controller 0 (PERC H310 Mini)

The issue i have is the Vendor for these disks is Dell(TM)

I have read that it could be that the Raid controller firmware may be out of date.

Has anyone else seen this kind of error before when the disks are signed by Dell.

Kind Regards,

Bradley Hamer
