Hello-

What is the order of the drive numbering on a C2100?  Does it go from left to right or top down? In other words, which drive is drive 1, which is drive 2, etc.  The server is remote so i can't test.

Thanks!

Good afternoon. We actually count with 2 disks in the server DELL SSD 800GB 400-AEPP.We want to implement a change of the disk to Raid 5 or Raid 10 each of this configuration depend on the amount of disks. In case that we implement Raid 5 we need to have 2 additional disks and for Raid 10 we need 4 additional disks.

We need to know if the disks  800GB Intel NVMe P3600 PCie SSD 2.5 in is compatible with the Disks DELL SSD 800GB 400-AEPP and server tag service Dell <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> to configure Raid 5 or Raid 10. Thank you.

Problem with Western Digital WD2004FBYZ with VMware vsphere 5.5

Dear all,

I have a Dell r410 server, initially installed with vmware vsphere 5.5 with drive 0 and drive 1 with Raid 1, later, i installed another drive 2 and drive 3 with newly purchased WD2004FBYZ 2T harddisk and formed another Raid 1, it seems everythings are ok and alright, however, today i found that the 2T raid 1 is inactive, so, i went to check the dell idrac, and i found the there are

fault detected on drive 3 and fault detected on drive 2,

and the datastore become unavailable, i need to enter to th per6/i storage controller to remove the cache, so that i can boot up the vmware again, howvever, it seems that the system can't found the two 2TB disk again. i can only found a firmware update for this WD2004FBYZ for poweredge Gen 13 series, but i can't find any update for R410 server. please help!!!

H730P Mini backplane error...

Hi

Some days ago, a SAS drive went dead.

we call support and replace it without any problem.

But we still have Backplane faillure, and impossible to make it "green again".

  • backplane version is 3.03
  • BIOS, Openmanage, Drivers, all is up to date...
  • Dell DSM Services were all restarted.

DELL Suppport asked us to reboot server to clean logs, but it's pretty hard to do so while it's on production...

Did someone face the same trouble ? And How to solve it without rebooting whole server.

Best regards

Olivier

Raid troubles / potential bad drive or controller

I help out a small business with their servers. I get a call this morning that their Dell 400SC (obtained 2003-ish / Win 2000 server) is screaming bloody murder. It's up and functioning best I can tell.

I have them reboot and Ctrl-M into the raid utility to silence the alarm (cheers in the background)

I have them get into the utility's physical drive area and it looks like I have Channel-3 failure

Channel-2 is: ONLIN A00-00

Channel-3 is FAIL A00-01

Raid bios utility Ver5a42 Jan 21, 2002

The drives are mirrored

I'm looking to determine if it's just a bad drive or if the raid controller is a goner. It isn't obvious to me and I'm remote so anything I want to do is actually a series of instructions to someone over the phone which is, of course, non-optimal.

Here's a shot of the screen:

Any help determining for certain what is really wrong would be appreciated.

R620 Added Raid

We have an R620 that we wanted to add raid to. So I purchased an h710 Mini perc card and noticed I would need a new cable from the motherboard to back plane. That was a week ago. I have been reaching out to my sales rep for a week. At first responses were quick, but he told me that he could not place the order. so now I am dealing with him and another rep and have been for the week. I have received 1 email of quotes for a bunch of external SAS cables. Now I should say that in my first email I included the actual Dell part number I needed.

Why is this taking so long. Do they not want to sell me a $5 cable for $155? This is a time sensitive project and I am getting very frustrated at Dells inability to fulfill a simple order.

Removing my complaint as it has been resolved

R905 reboots

I recently replaced the motherboard on a dell R905 with an identical board. I was wondering if there's anything else I need to do, because I get an E2110 error concerning MBE at DIMM B7 $ B8. I have swapped memory sticks around with working ram from different slots and still get the exact same error. Also when I first boot it up, I have no errors, but after a while (varies from a few minutes to a few hours), the server restarts itself and the E2110 error comes back. What could I be missing?

DELL Poweredge 2900 - Disk failure

$

Hello,

We have an old Dell Poweredge 2900 server running our SQL Server database.  Last week we discovered that the Raid 5 is degraded and 1 of the disks disk 0 is completely down and showing amber light.  We were already running low on disk space so even if we got it up and running by purchasing a replacement of the SAS 146GB 10k disk we would still be running out of database storage.  I have purchased a Seagate Cheetah 15k SAS 600GB ST3600057SS and would like to replace the failed drive with it.

Question:

1) Open manage is not installed but would like to install.  What version can I use for this Server 2900.

2) Can my replacement of a 146GB with a 600GB work?

Please for your advise since this database server is key to my business operation.

Thanks in advance

Sense 5/24/00, OpenManage and PERC event log

Hi to all

I would like to identify exactly why i'm receiving tons of

"Unexpected sense. SCSI sense data: Sense key:  5 Sense code: 24 Sense qualifier:  0:  Physical Disk 0:0:1 Controller 0, Connector 0"

on all *uncertified* disks.

In the same server I have both certified and uncertified (but same identical model as certified ones) disks and the unexpected sense happens only on uncertified ones.

I think (but i'm not totally sure about this) that this happens only with Open Manage installed, so "someone" is executing commands that are unreconized by uncertified disks.

Other than this, disks are working perfectly.

So:

1) who is executing commands that results in unexpected sense?

2) which are these commands and what's their meaning? Are used to detected a certified drive?

3) with openmanage installed, every now and then, the controller logs are cleared. I think is openmanage that clears the log. How can I stop this ?

Failed drive now foreign config cleared

Our RAID was degraded. The new drive we installed was marked as foreign. In the PERC H700 the foreign config for the array was cleared, so now the array will not boot up. No other changes have been made to the system.

I read that retag the array could restore functionality, but I think the original server's raid was configured through the OS in System Administrator. I'm scared to setup a new VD in the PERC H700 BIOS, because I think that might erase anything I could recover.

The following link provides an ISO that can perform data recovery. I'm downloading it now to at least grab any logs I can. Can I also recover the old RAID through this utility?

Cheers

2 Disks fail at same time

HI

I have a Dell R510 that contains multiple 2TB Drives in Raid10.

Earlier this year 2 Drives failed at the same time, once we replace those drives data was lost and we had to rebuild the server.

Today I noticed the server was down and bios was complaining of disk issues, I plugged the server out and reseatted each drive.

The OS boots but shows Degraded state.

When I check in open manager, again it shows 2 disks failed.. i'm wondering if this is possibly wrong as last time it shows 2 failed.. its not the same disks this time.

I have a single disk replacement on delivery today.. wondering if its possibly just 1 disk failed.. and how do I know which one of the 2 to replace..

Configuring a refurbished DELL R710 Server as an application server

Hello,

We recently purchased a R710 to replace our older PE 2850 Server. The PE 2850 Server is running W2K3 Professional edition. The R710 currently is pre-installed with W2K8 Enterprise Edition. Due to the core business application we are using being certified for W2K3 OS we have no choice but to downgrade to W2K3 Professional edition.

We are using Dell Server setup utility CDU-1.6_CORE_173_A01.  While installing W2K3 Server enterprise edition we are being asked to enter the Dell Open Manage Server Administrator ver 6.5.0.  We have downloaded OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-win-6.5.0-2247,AO1.10.exe but after burning it to a CD both zipped and extracted it spits out the Cd (does not recognize it).

Anyone knows what I can do to get the software recognized or to get it installed otherwise.

Thanks in advance.

PE R610 with 2 different arrays. Array A is 2 (RAID 1) disks and array B is 4 (RAID 5) disks. It seems 1 disk in array B is ready and not online. Therefore, array B is degraded. Using OMSA:

How do i bring this disk back online without destroying any data using OMSA?

Battery and Disk failures

Hello,

we have a PowerEdge R510 server with Perc H700 Raid controller  installed, configured to run with Raid-5. So far we have configured 2 virtual disks. The first virtual disk consists of 4 hdd x 2 TB each, configured with Raid-5.

The second virtual disk has 4 hdds  x 3 TB each.

We have noticed that 2 hard disks (of 2 TB each), from the first pool, blink orange. We run the ESET tool,  and smart tool (the server runs centos), and get from the report, that the hard disks are in predicted failure. Also from the report we noticed that the battery of the controller is in failed state

What are the proper steps to follow to replace the battery and the drives?

Best regards

PowerEdge R220 and PERC H710 Compatible?

$

Hello, I have a client with a PowerEdge R220.  It's currently configured with a pair of 500GB SATA drives attached to the embedded controller (S110).  I'd like to know if it's possible to install a PERC H710 into this model and reconfigure the two drives into a RAID 1 array.  If so, which PERC H710 is recommended  and which cables will I need assuming two drives and no backplane?

Another question.  If I install the PERC controller card into the R220 and install the appropriate H710 drivers into the existing Windows Server 2012 R2 installation, can I then create the RAID 1 array and image the existing drives to the new RAID array or does this process require a complete reinstall of Windows Server?

Thank you for your time and assistance,

R
