Power Edge T310 No Operating system listed in system recovery

Hi all,

I'm attempting to restore a system state backup due to corruption caused by a UPS failure. I've booted using the SBS 2011 ISO disk and selected repair. However here is no operating system listed in the System Recovery Options window. I assumed this was due to the lack of the PERC S100 raid driver so I installed the drivers, but the operating system is still not shown. I feel like I’m missing something simple, but I can’t put my finger on it.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

PE1950 PERC 5/i Not Initialize SATA Disk

Good Afternoon Dell Community, I kindly ask your help or advice regarding this issue:

1) I have 1 1TB SATA HDD in my PE1950 PERC 5/i in Raid0, this was my only disk in the server. I had some issues with the Server Motherboard but I replaced it and my Server Boot again without problem.

2) However, as the SATA HDD had some issues when I tried to add in the RAID of  another ESXi server for try to recover my data, after this, I formated the disk at low level, apply HDD Regenerator, DBAN, Seatools, and the disk appears fine, without more problems. However, when I tried to add the disk again to the PE1950 PERC 5/i in Raid0 for install  ESXi (as I have in the past), even at first it allow to configure the virtual disk (without the advanced settings), the initialization took a long time and fail:

And the disk appears as foreign. Even I clear the foreign, and repeat the process, the issue persists:

4) At this moment I'm trying update the firmware update for PERC 5/i (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/906/t/19380771?db=5), with the HDD file,

, however I need the 1TB HDD because the 136Gb isnt enough.

Regards.

T320 - Drive Carrier Status LEDs Off

T320 server with six SAS 1TB 7.2k drives and a PERC H710 adapter.  RAID 10 configured.  Server is maybe 1.5 years old.  For each of the drive carriers, the status LED is not lit.  OpenManage says the following:

Battery is ready, Connector 0 (RAID) is ready, all six physical disks are OK, online and spun up.  Under virtual disks, OpenManage shows Virtual Disk 0 as ready and configured as RAID 10.

Any idea why the status LED is not lit on any of the drive carriers?  Server is experiencing more lag than normal when logged in and there was lots of lag when viewing OpenManage locally.  Server operated correctly yesterday and there was no lag.  Demand on the server has not increased today.

Thanks

Replacement H200A PERC controller - RAID volumes inactive - okay to activate?

Hi all, quick question which I *think* I know the answer to, but it's a new one on me and any fiddling with RAID settings in a live environment make me sweat.
Situation is I've got a PowerEdge T410 with a PERC H200A controller and two RAID 1 volumes, one of 600 GB and one of 1 TB.  Was seeing a "Bus fatal error slot 4" message in OpenManage and in the diagnostics, which points to the H200A, and as a result, the server's not powering up cleanly into ESXi, and one of the volumes is showing as Unmounted in vCenter.  It won't mount.

Luckily I have a spare H200A controller, so I've put it in the server and, as expected, it's showing the RAID volumes as Inactive.  I'm *assuming* I can just Activate them and they'll come to life, but I just wanted to check if anyone's had to do this before and can confirm this will work.

Thanks,

Tim.

PE1950 PERC5/i Not Allow Reflashing nor Updating Firmware

Good Morning Dell Community, I kindly ask your help or advice regarding this issue.

1) After I tried to update the firmware of the PERC 5/i unsuccesful the first time, the server dont recognize the PERC RAID anymore. It says that the adapter needs to be reflashed

2) I try to reflash/update the firmware with those hard disk versions: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=2RPK0

but in both cases, the wizard hanged in seaching the adapters (in my case, all last night):

3) I also tried the SAS-RAID_Firmware_WJG5R_LN32_5.2.2-0072_A08.BIN as were suggested in the post: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/906/t/19666232  without success. I will try in a Centos LIve Image (as is the nearest to RH)

I dont know if it is made the PERC unusable, ¿Is there anything that can be done or should I buy another?

Regards.

Adding another independent drive to PE 840

Hi,

I have PE 840 with four (4) 500 GB drives  RAID 5 enabled. I want to add another independent drive (1TB). Can someone suggest whether I can add a SATA drive in one of the ports, apart from RAID drives? Which drive is preferable? IDE or SATA?

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Cannot fix "Missing Drive" on PERC H700

$

We have 6 hard drives configured for RAID 5 (no hot spare). One of the drives  recently reported "failed" so we bought a new drive with the same capacity, make, and speed to replace it. However, upon replacement, the new one did not show up and the slot show "Missing Drive." Somehow it affects the one next to it as well. Now both slot showing "missing." We've tried unplug/plug in the SAS cable from the controller card to the back plane. We're sure that there's no problem with cable. However, because of this, the whole virtual disk is Offline and there's no way to get the RAID to rebuild.

SSD Compatibility w/PERC S300 RAID?

$

We have an older PE T110 first generation with a PERC S300 RAID controller and 4x250GB drives. However, because the controller is older, there is not much in terms of documentation on SSD compatibility. Has anyone had any success upgrading any server/workstation using a PERC S300 with an SSD of any kind in RAID 10 configuration?

Lastly, I don't recall what kind of connector is on the existing drives and am a little confused about the difference between SATA and SAS. What normally comes stock with this system and what would I need if I moved to SSD's? New cables? Anything else I would need to know?

PERC 6/i Integrated disk failure issues

Hello,

My company recently picked up 3 (gen 10) PowerEdge R900 servers each with the Perc 6/i controller. As these servers are being used for video recording we replaced all drives with 5x 2TB Seagate Pipeline HD SATA drives in a RAID 5 configuration(no hot spare). All drives have the same firmware.

I have now had 4 drives on 2 separate systems report critical drive (E1810) failures. In 3 of the cases either reseating the drive into the chassis, or swapping it into one of the other servers, clearing foreign config, and letting the drives rebuild fixed the issue. I am seeing 5/24/00 Sense errors but looking that up it seems to be software related. Is this a backplane problem, a controller problem, or are these HDDs actually having issues? Is there a way to do individual drive diagnostics without damaging the Virtual Disks?

Thanks,

George

PERC H700 large hard drive support

Does anyone know the largest SATA hard drives supported by a PERC H700 in a PowerEdge R710? I've read on another post that the H700 will support 3TB drives. Would like to know if it would also support 4TB and 6TB drives.

Thanks,

Simon

Dell R730 RAID5 and C drive size for Windows OS

$

I have procured Dell R730 server with 1.2 TB x 4 HDD.

It's shipped with default RAID 5 with two logical volumes, 1.8TB & 1.3 TB each. So when I install Windows 2008 R2 OS, I will have two partitions C with 1.9 TB and D = 1.6 TB

Why is this raid defined in this way? Is it possible for me to wipe out this default raid and define a new raid5 as 1.4 TB x4 HDD as a single raid volume?

Dell HBA and FreeNAS

I have an aging PE2950(II) and I am looking to run FreeNAS 9.x on it. It currently has plenty of RAM in it. My issue is with the PERC 5/I Integrated storage controller in it. I have head ways of flashing the card so it is only an HBA and not a RAID card. Running the controller with a bunch of single drive RAID-0 is not an option because of it being unstable. I have seen topic about flashing the card so it just acts as an HBA and not a RAID card. Dell even seems to have a firmware ( www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails;fileId=2991233692&osCode=WNET&productCode=poweredge-2950&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SE ) to support that. When I tried to update the firmware, it said that this updated doesn't apply to my system.

When I run 'dsu --inventory' I get the following output so I know I have the right firmware to hardware:

[root@usbstick ~]# dsu --inventory
Getting System Inventory...

1. OpenManage Server Administrator ( Version : 8.2.0 )

2. BIOS ( Version : 2.7.0 )

3. PERC 5/i Integrated Controller 0 Firmware ( Version : 5.2.2-0072 )

4. Firmware for - Disk 0 in Backplane 0 of PERC 5/i Integrated Controller 0 ( Version : ES62 )

5. Firmware for - Disk 1 in Backplane 0 of PERC 5/i Integrated Controller 0 ( Version : T107 )

6. SAS/SATA Backplane 0:0 Backplane Firmware ( Version : 1.05 )

7. NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit Ethernet rev 12 (eth5) ( Version : 2.9.1 )

8. NetXtreme II BCM5709 Gigabit Ethernet rev 20 (eth6) ( Version : 7.2.14 )

9. NetXtreme II BCM5709 Gigabit Ethernet rev 20 (eth8) ( Version : 7.2.14 )

10. NetXtreme II BCM5709 Gigabit Ethernet rev 20 (eth4) ( Version : 7.2.14 )

11. NetXtreme II BCM5709 Gigabit Ethernet rev 20 (eth7) ( Version : 7.2.14 )

Anybody have any ideas of why the firmware isn't installing?

If anyone has experience with this not work, would someone please recommend a Dell SAS HBA that provides internal access for at least 6 internal drives (in a backplane) that ONLY does SAS/SATA and no RAID.

Unable to upgrade firmware for PERC 5/i on PE1950

$

We have 6 PE1950 servers with SAS PERC 5/i Integrated RAID controllers. Dell OpenManage is complaining about the PERC firmware being out of date. Of the 2 servers I currently have running, one has firmware 5.2.1-0062 and one has 5.1.1-0040. I have downloaded the latest version of 5.2.2-0072. I tried updating thru the Windows package and that failed, along with it complaining about the OS being too new. One server is Windows Server 2008 R2 and the other is Windows Server 2012 R2. So then I created a DOS USB stick with the hard drive files from Dell and ran update.bat. That failed on both servers with the following errors:

Firmware failed to FLASH flash. Stop!!!

The Firmware update failed for controller 0

The Controller Firmware update process failed!!

Both servers had the exact same errors as shown above. Any ideas about how I can successfully get the firmware updated? I verified that the package I downloaded is for the PERC 5/i Integrated.

It is the one here (if this will let me post a link):
