PowerEdge RAID5 Expansion

$

Dear All,

We hava an R720xd server with a RAID5 array (PERC H710p RAID) . I've hot added a new HDD, and expanded the RAID5 array.

It's been two days since the expansion has completed, but the OS have not recognize the new size of the disk yet, so I cannot resize the partition on it.

What did I miss? Is it just need a reboot?

OS: Windows Server 2012 R2

Thanks.

8 SATA SSD; 8 vs. 4+4 Raid 10.

Hello,

I have a R710 with H700 integrated raid card and 8*2,5 backplane and right now I’m using a RAID 10 with 4 Intel SSD S3500 and I'm pretty happy with them.

I have bought 4 more of the same SSD and I don't know if it will be better doing a raid 10 with all the 8 SSD or two raid 10 with 4 SSD each one.

By the other hand the H700 is on the integrated pci slot for that, but I think it's only X4 and the H710p is X8; maybe it will have some sense to move it to a X8 pci bay and try to hold the card in some way.

Finally, is it possible to buy another H700 or H710 (the PCI one) and connect from the backplane the SAS A cable to one card and the SAS B cable to the integrated H700; in this way doing 2*Raid 10, each raid 10 will use one card and one PCI bay. Does the R710 work fine (unsuported) with H710 or H730(PCI gen2/gen3...); they seems to have better chip for SSD.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Dell/LSI 9260-8i and cachecade

Hello,

I have a Dell rebranded LSI 9260-8i cachecade adapter in a PowerEdge 2950 mod III. It it running the latest DELL version of firmware.

Every time we reboot the system the cache cade disks are marked as foreign. This in turns causes a whole series of issues.
To clear this, we normally drop into the preboot CLI can clear the foreign config via the cfgforeign command.

What do I need to prevent this from happening?

Thanks

Can't find any info on Dell/LSI 9270CV-8i

Hello,

Long story short I've been looking to add a RAID controller that supports RAID 6 into my server. Been looking around and found several 9270CV-8i on ebay and it seems to fit the bill (pci-e 3.0, raid 6 support, cachevault). The products have dell PN on them and some listings list "Dell/LSI 9270CV-8i," but i can't find any information on this controller.

I've contacted LSI and they said not to use their firmware from a 9270-8i to update it but to contact Dell.

Basically i want this controller, but not if it uses a proprietary Dell firmware on it that i can't update or Dell is slow to update.

Thanks

Add Drives to Array

We have a r610 with 2 arrays both RAID 1. We have 2 more slots to add to an array. 1 array is 2x146gb drives and 1 array is 2x300gb drives. We want to add 2 more 300gb drives to the 2x300gb array. I read somewhere on these forums that you can install openmanage and increase the size of the array without losing any data. In fact, i have done this one 1 of our r710's. I can't remember exactly how to do it. Can anyone either point me to the doc that says how to do it or outline the steps to do it? The controller is a PERC 6/i

I remember i had to install the drives. Then install openmanage on the server 2012 core install (and doing that i had to follow a dell doc). Browse to ip:8080/????? Once in openmange "reconfigure" option was available. Select the drive(s) and click sync........ Does that ring a bell for anyone?

Need help with H700 firmware upgrade-- lost VD

$

Can someone guide me here, as I just upgraded the firmware of the integrated controller to vs 12.10.7.0001 of our PowerEdge T610 running Raid5 (3disk) and now on boot it is giving the error "The following disks are missing. If you proceed (or load the configuration utility), these virtual disks will be removed from your configuration. If you wish to use them at a later time, they will have to be imported...etc.

All was fine prior to the upgrade and would really rather not rebuild this server.. Now VD is missing.

Thanks in advance

H700 firmware upgrade fails

I have two R510 machines running Windows 2008R2 that I plan on upgrading to Windows 2012R2.  In preparation for the upgrade I am trying to upgrade the server's components to the latest firmware revisions. I was able to upgrade both machines BIOS' to 1.5.4 but both H700s fail.

One H700 is as 12.3 and the other is at 12.10-1.  I have tried several different files and versions.  For instance I have tried Win32 and Win64 versions.  I have tried with the latest and with intermediate versions.  All give me the same error "This update is not compatible with your system configuration".  When I try using a DOS USB boot version I get a "cannot find a supported adapter".

Other than not being able to upgrade the firmware the servers seem to be running fine.

Any ideas?  TIA

PE4400 with PERC 3/Di raid controller does not see drives in NT4 recovery console

I have downloaded the correct PERC NT4 drivers for the scsi controller and copied them to a diskette.    I can boot from the windows CD and install additional scsi drivers from the diskette,  but it stops with a message

“setup did not find any hard disks……….”

If I let the server boot normally, the raid container is there and it will boot into windows.

Have you experienced this problem?

Dell PE R820 Server disk configuration question

$

Hi all,

We have a PE R820 server. It is being considered to become a Exchange 2013 server. This server as 16 900Gb 10k SAS drives and a Perc H710P Raid controller. This controller has two channels and when I look at the server I can see both cables going to connectors A and B on the front panel where the 16 SAS drives are located. I would like to have 1/2 the drivers on one channel, and the other 1/2 on the other channel so I/O's don't saturate the one channel. The issue I have is that when I am configuring the raid sets I cannot select which channel the disks are on and in the Perc bios, all the drives appear on channel 1, and I can't find any option in the bios to change this.

So can anyone tell me how I can do this or is the 2nd channel reserved for external drive chassis and the internal drive bays are hared wired to use the one channel?

Regards,

Craig

I'm trying to find a H700 Card with 512MB NV Cache on ebay.  Is there a part number for this item?  Also the pricing seems to be all over the place on these cards with no apparent reason... is this normal?

Foreign configuration: import or clear

$

Hello,
I have an old PE2900 with a Perc 6/i that tomorrow morning I found with the message:

Foreign configuration(s) found on adapter. Press any key to continue, or ’C’ to load the configuration utility or ’F’ to import foreign configuration(s) and continue.

There are offline or missing virtual drives with preserved cache. Please check the cables and ensure that all drives are present. Press any key to enter the configuration utility.

I've attached the screen shots of the VD Mgmt, PD Mgmt and Foreign view from the Configuration Utility.

It seems that the global hot spare has failed and I need to choose the CLEAR option but since I'm not a RAID expert I want to be sure to not choose the wrong procedure.

Moreover we found that there is a problem with the backup so it is very important to put online the server and perform a fll backup as soon as possible.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Hard Disks for PowerEdge 2950

$

I just received three servers from the company I work at. All drives were removed from the servers and all the RAM was removed from one of them. The other two servers have 32GB of RAM each.

Two of the servers are Poweredge 2950 with 8 2.5" HD bays.

I'm wanting to populate one server with all 8 bays but I'm not really wanting to spend the money for SAS so I was thinking about 8 SATA 750GB HDs and one SATA drive to host FreeNAS. my server comes with one SATA plug on the board which I will use for the OS.

The drives will not be in a RAID but will be in a zpool.

Also, any place you guys could recommend where I could buy the HD caddies?

T300 with CERC SATA 1.5/6ch - 2TB Drives

$

I have to create a backup server with this T300, I have a CERC 1.5/6ch and swapped out the drives with 4 2TB drives. Although it sees all the drives in the Disk Utilities section, it does not see the disks in the Array Configuration. I've looked at posts and everything is about going above or below 2TB drives for this controller. So my questions:

- Can the CERC SATA 1.5/6ch support 2TB drives in a RAID 5?

- If so, how do I get it to see the drives in the Array Configuration, so to setup my array.

- If not, What RAID array controller is compatible to put in the T300 that I can setup a RAID 5 with the 4 2TB drives I have. (ideally compatible with Open Manage)

I already know of the O/S limitations and UEFI. I can't get to that point before I can setup my array. Please advise. I was hoping I can get this up fast and here I am....Any help would be appreciated.

thx......

SSD Samsung 850 on Power Edge T110

$

I'm trying configure correctly a SSD Samsung 850 EVO on a Power Edge T110.

The performance read/write is very poor (comparable a normal Hard Disk).

The Operation system, are on a separately HD.

On The System Setup (F2), the SATA Controler Mode is set to AHCI, but, on the Samsung Magician, report the disk not in the AHCI mode.

Anyone know the way to solve this?

PERC H200 - Can I read disk in another server?

$
0
0

I have a pair of old HDDs in a Raid1 (mirror) strung off a PERC H200 controller.

Does anyone know if it's possible to pull these drives and then read the data off them without using another H200 card (eg can I shove them into a linux desktop and just read the data)?

I've ended up in a situation where both my drives seem to be in a failure state. Normally (without a raid card) I'd spend some time trying to get as much of an image off them as possible using gnu/ddrescue and then try and recover the contained file system. I don't know if this will work at all with them being behind a H200 and presenting as a "dell virtual disk" and sadly don't have a spare raid card or disks to test it with.

Thoughts would be appreciated; with thanks :)
