PowerEdge T110 Server HDD configs using PERC H200 adapter

Current:

PowerEdge T110 Server using PERC H200 SAS Adapter

2 x 500Gb Seagate HDD's configured for RAID 1.

2 x 2Gb DDR3 1600Mhz UDIMM's RAM

Windows Server 2008 R2, SP1, Foundation.

Future:

Replace current 2 x 2Gb DDR3 1600Mhz UDIMM RAM with 4 x 4Gb DDR3 1333Mhz UDIMM RAM.

Add 2 x new 2TB SAS HDD's to PERC H200 SAS Adapter, configure new RAID 1 Array.

Questions:

Please confirm I will use the processes as below??

1. Power down, install new RAM and HDD.

2. Boot to BIOS (F2) - check correct RAM/Drives visible?

3. Boot to RAID Adapter (Ctrl-C) and then:

Select New Volume Type - RAID 1 Virtual Disk

Create new Volume

Activate Volume - (initialize) or does it do it automatically when creating new volume?

4. Reboot to Win 2008 R2 Server OS.

5. Windows Disk Management - add free drive space to existing C: + D: partitions.

Best way to replace RAID 1 disks, with one disk Predictive Failure and other disk totally failed

I have OS disks in RAID1, where one of the disk is predictive failure and other disk is total failure. What is the best way to replace these disks with data intact.

RAID5 not showing up as an option in OMSA with 3 new disks present

I am wanting to create a new RAID5 volume in my R710.  It currently has a RAID1 volume using drives in slots 0 and 1.  I added three new drives and can see them all in OMSA, but when I start the Create Virtual Disk Wizard, the only options presented are RAID0 and RAID1.  I am running OMSA Version 7.4.0.

I am wondering if it is because the three drives are not all showing up under the same RAID controller.  I put the three disks in slots 3, 4 and 5, but only the drives in 4 and 5 showed up under RAID Connector 1, the drive in slot 3 showed up under Connector 0 with the other two disks that are currently in use.  I moved the drive from slot 3 to slot 2, but it still shows up under Connector 0.

I would have thought that I could create a RAID5 volume from disks across the two RAID connectors, I am fairly certain I have done so in the past using the RAID BIOS utility, and I can go that route this time, but I thought I would avoid a production server outage if I could.  I also would have thought that the 6 drive slots would be evenly distributed across the two controllers, not 4 and 2 like I am apparently seeing.

I could put the RAID1 volume in slots 4 and 5, but that does not achieve the goal of avoiding a server outage.  Any insights?  Thank you!

R515 PERC H700 Drive Not Visible

I have a PowerEdge R515 that I'm attempting to expand the array on.  At present I have 2 drives in a RAID 1 configuration and 4 drives in a RAID 5 configuration.  I want to expand the RAID 5 with an additional 300GB drive.  I have installed the drive in slot 6 yet an unable to see the drive in OMSA or the array configuration at post.  I have the most resent firmware and the server has been rebooted.  Unfortunately this is a remote site for me for I suggested first that the drive was actually installed in that server and second that it be re-seated.  Any thought?

pe 2900 replaced bad PERC 5/i controller. How to restore the VD configuration?

I got PCIe communication error, and after replacing the PERC 5/i controller, I see no configurations present for the controller. I tried to import foreign configuraiton, but getting error message. What is the procedure when someone needs to restore the previous configuration for the new controller. If I start new configuraiton, can it keep the existing data and is accessible to boot. Please advise. I see two disks in ready state and one disk in foreign state. Thanks

R515 PERC H700 Drive Not Visible

Problems adding Hard Drive & clear foreing config

Hi guys,


The server is a R420 with PERC H310 mini, three physical Disk ( 1:00 to 1:02) are in RAID 5 and are assigned to Virtual Disk 0 and Virtual Disk 1.

On last week I  tried to add a new 1 TB SAS disk, it was going fine, configured as standalone, RAID 0, after create the virtual Disk 2 it got frozen in 30 percent of initialization , and I had to interrupt the process to normalize the services.

Then I tried to do it again, but the Virtual Disk 2 is not available for operations and I can't erase it or create a new one. I found Virtual Disk 2 is recognized as foreign.

I suppose I have to Clear Foreign Config to erase and reconfigure Virtual Disk 2, my doubts are:

  • If I Clear Foreign Config, the Virtual Disk 0 an 1 are not affected?
  • Which is the average time to initialize a 1 TB Disk?

Hard drive options for T130 with perc SATA raid

We want to add a 4TB hard drive (or 2 2TB hard drives) to our T130 Server. Apparently there is a limited amount of hard drives that will work in it. Is there a list of tested hard drives that I cannot find? My customer has a huge credit on newegg and would like to get the drive there.

More info, Dell support said it's a:

Seagate HD,4T,ES,7.2K,3.5,S-MEG,E/C,6G (Anyone know what that translates to?)

Power edge R710 with MBE2147RC SAS 6 Gbps, 146GB, 15K RPM in RAID5 replace with other disk??

Hello!!

We have here R710 severs with 5 hard disk SAS model MBE2147RC in RAID5 and we need to buy spare parts, but here they say that they only have 300GB sas 12Gbps 10k RPM

My question is that those drives are compatible in RAID5 to use?? or do I need other model??

PowerEdge RAID Controller Card - H700

Hello,

I have to test a H700 card to see if it works.

I don't know where to begin testing.

Would you be able to give me suggestions on how to test the H700 card?  It is a card that I will have to insert into a PCI slot in a server and test.

For example, to test the H700, does the server need to have an OS installed and configured as RAID?  Or is there a simple test I can do.

PowerEdge 2900 Svr 2003

Running VMWare ESXi 5.0
Recently replaced a drive - DiskDriveBay1 Drive0 - 09.02.16 still showing Rebuild in Progress.  Also showing PERC controller battery and CMOS battery failed.  Will waiting until Tuesday after LaborDay Holiday harm the status of the server or will the server be ok until parts replaced?  Also, would a firmware upgrade for PERC controller resolve the currently displayed information?

Suggestions welcomed.

PowerEdge 2950 E 1810 HDD 0

Good morning,

Disks 0 and 1 in the server object (xxxxxxx, Tag removed by moderator for security reasons) are fault with error code E 1810. During boot time, the system displays:

There are offline or missing virtual drives with preserved cache.

I include photos of the displayed messages.

PERC H700 RAID controller Firmware

I am trying to find the latest firmware 12.10.4-0001 for my PE R710 and have had no luck at all.

Is there a link someone can put in here so I can download and update.

I am getting intermittent battery failures and soon after it reports OK.

This is normally a FW issue.

I am currently running 12.0.1-0091

I didnt find this option just Raid 0 and I have updated the firmware to 1.2 (last update from DELL site)

please help me

Replaced failed Seagate ST3600057SS, but OpenManage says "revision" is dated (0008, three others are ES64). Says it's Online but has yellow flag. Best remedy?

Upgrading PERC H700 from version 12.3.0 to 12.10.7

base on the website there's a previous version, 

12.10.6

12.10.4

12.10.3

I am currentlry looking previous version of 12.10.3 if it has, do these have matrix before proceeding to 12.10.7 version

Replacing spinner with SSD

Hi,

I want to replace my raid array from spinner hard drives to SSD's. After connecting the disks when I go to OpenManage and select replace disk it wont let me replace my spinner with SSD. Is there any reason why it let me replace a spinner drive with an SSD?

Raid Drive Issue

I look after a Dell Poweredge T430 server

On the 3 disk raid for data I had a drive flashing amber, I presumed it was a faulty drive to replaced it with a brand new one, I now have alternating green and amber light. On looking at status via open manage I have a warning triangle that just says Non critical
